PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a manufacturing method with which any defect produced by short-circuiting between adjacent pixels and opposing electrode substrates via a foreign matter is eliminated by retaining and capturing the foreign matter produced by cleaning with a brush on the outside of a display region. SOLUTION: A barrier 6 to capture the foreign matter 28 is formed around the vicinity of the display region 2 of a liquid crystal display device 1. The manufacturing method of the barrier 6 has a step to form it with materials identical to a plurality of materials constructing a TFT 16 concurrently with formation of the TFT 16.
