PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve productivity while maintaining working accuracy in a method and a device for thread cutting for a joint for the end of an oil well pipe having a metal seal part. SOLUTION: The vicinity of one end of the oil well pipe P rather closer to the central part than a thread part to be cut is centered a front chuck 12a and a rear chuck 12b disposed at a predetermined space, and held. After that, the other part of the oil well pipe P centered and held is subjected to threading while pairs of upper and lower support rollers 13a to 13d disposed on both sides of the oil well pipe P are respectively integrated with the rotating oil well pipe P and individually moved to approach and separate for following-up.
