PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a matrix type display apparatus employing a display panel conforming to the European standards to display the video source of a PAL system or a SECAM system. SOLUTION: The video display apparatus has: a video signal input unit for inputting a video signal of an interlace system having the predetermined number of scanning lines; a video signal converting unit 14 for converting the video signal from the video signal input means into a video signal of a progressive system having the submultiple scanning lines of the predetermined number; and a matrix type display panel 20 for inputting a video signal from the unit 14 to display a video image of the progressive system.
