PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a rotational fluctuation of an engine when performing EGR in a predetermined stable operation range of the engine where feedback control of an air/fuel ratio is carried out. SOLUTION: In a control device, an EGR valve 25 which regulates an EGR amount is arranged in an EGR passage 23 for refluxing part of exhaust gas to an air intake passage 11. The air intake passage 11 is formed with a variable volume section 31 joined to the air intake passage 11, the volume of which varies in accordance with the displacement of a piston 32. In the predetermined engine stable operation range, when carrying out the feedback control of the air/fuel ratio and performing the EGR, the position of displacement of the piston 32 is changed and controlled so as to prevent the rotational fluctuation of the engine (or controlled so that the larger the rotational fluctuation is, the smaller the suction volume may be in changing and controlling the intake volume). When the rotational fluctuation cannot be prevented satisfactorily by the positional control of the piston 32 (the control of the intake volume), the EGR amount is reduced.
