PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optical scanner in which the deterioration in image plane characteristics and a pitch variation particularly in a main scanning direction are small with respect to an environmental variation and a wavelength variation and an image quality having luster is satisfied even when a luminous flux having a short wavelength is used, and also to obtain an image forming apparatus using the optical scanner. SOLUTION: Respective conditional expressions are satisfied in the optical scanner provided with a light source means 1 emitting the luminous flux having a wavelength of≤450 nm, an incident optical system LA which guides the luminous flux emitted from the light source means to a deflection means 5, and a focusing optical system 6 having one or more optical elements which guide the luminous flux deflected with the deflection means onto a face to be scanned 8.
