The gear shift has a shift lever (10) and a transmission mechanism e.g. Bowden cable, for transferring a switching movement to a gear operating unit (21) of a gear (20), where the axial length of the lever is changeable. The lever is composed of a switching knob and an axially running cam control mechanism. The knob is adjustable in two positions on the cam control mechanism.
