<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low cost solid polymer fuel cell with high battery performance, and to provide its operation method. <P>SOLUTION: A separator 28 comprises a metal single plate and a fuel gas flow passage 18 and an oxidation gas flow passage 26 which are formed by plastic working are provided on its surface and back surface. In the separator comprising one metal plate, fuel electrode layers 38 and an oxidizer electrode layer 40 on its both sides are comparatively elastic so that electrical contact between them is possible enough even if dimensional tolerance becomes large. Thus, the separator 28 becomes extraordinarily inexpensive so that the low cost solid polymer fuel cell 16 can be obtained. Since the fuel electrode layer 38 and the oxidizer electrode layer 40 comprise water management layers 76, 78 and/or gas diffusion layers 46, 48 having water management function so that the water content in the electrolyte layer 36 is held, high battery performance can be obtained even it does not have a serpentine structure. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
