<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalytic converter that can be fabricated by durable welding of a nearly-cylindrical casing body and a conical conduit both constituting a metallic vessel without generating a welding defect, and its manufacturing method. <P>SOLUTION: The metallic vessel is composed of the nearly-cylindrical casing body 3, the conical conduit 4 and a ring insert 5. The insert 5 is a ring of a convex cross section having a projecting ring 52 on the periphery of a ring body 51. The insert 5 has the first fitting section 53 formed by the periphery of the ring body and a side 52a of the projecting ring and the second fitting section 54 formed by the periphery of the ring body and another side 52b of the projecting ring. The first fitting section 53 is fitted to an end of the casing body 3, while the second fitting section 54 is fitted to the larger-diameter end 42 of the conical conduit 4, and then welding is carried out at the projecting ring 52 of the insert 5 and its vicinity. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
