PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform color gamut mapping suitable for the visual characteristic of a human being by introducing color gamut mapping using a color appearance space suitable for the visual characteristic of the human being. SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus has an XYZ calculating means for converting color values represented by a first color space into CIE tristimulus values XYZ, a color appearance conversion means for converting the XYZ values calculated by the XYZ calculating means into appearance space values by using a color appearance conversion formula, and a color conversion means for converting the appearance space values acquired by the color appearance conversion means into color values represented by a second color space.
