The method involves switching direct current motors (1,2) of sliding doors, electrically in series, during normal operation. The motors are controlled by a main output stage which is fed from a power supply unit. The motor (1) is controlled by the stage, and the motor (2) is controlled directly from an energy store or indirectly from the energy store over an auxiliary output stage, during an emergency opening of the door. An independent claim is also included for a device for an automatic drive of a sliding door.
