Device for input of coded and or unencoded commands with at least a keyboard that has at least three key and at least a screen for display of characters. The screen (7) displays selectable characters (10) that can be highlighted using a cursor element (11). The cursor element is moved along rows and or columns of characters using the keys (3, 5) and a character is selected by pressing the enter key (4). An independent claim is made for a method for inputting characters, e.g. a PIN, in which the characters are displayed on a screen and selected using input keys.
