PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform a corridor function while preventing the restriction of a route guidance or a map display to the utmost for a car navigation apparatus. SOLUTION: In route searching to the set destination, the control device route searches according to the following each condition: "Standard", "Distance", "Another route", "Toll road", and "Open road". When the "corridor" is selected after the route searching, the route with least data amount selected from among each searched route searched by "Distance", "Another route", "Toll road" and "Open road" is set as most suitable route for the corridor function, and the data for guidance is stored in a RAM, and the map data read out of the map CD-ROM set in the CD player is stored in the RAM. In this case, a lot of map data can be stored in the RAM because of a small amount of guidance data. Consequently, the route guidance and the map display are hardly impeded.
