PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position detector capable of detecting a position with high resolution, without using a contact object such as the stylus of a specified structure, and capable of preventing a damage such as a flaw on a contact surface in a base material. SOLUTION: This position detector 10 detects the position on the contact surface 260 of the contact object contacting with the contact surface 260, by propagating an elastic surface wave from a transmission side element part 21 to the contact surface 260 as an ultrasonic wave to be received by a reception side element part 22, and has the base material 201 having the contact face, and a hard film 250 coated on the base material 201.
