PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for testing a transmission capable of quantitatively analyzing the contribution of various torque characteristics of an engine to the transmission. SOLUTION: The device is formed such that a driving motor 1 for artificially outputting and transmitting the rotation of the vehicular engine to its input axis of the transmission 2, and on its output axis an absorption motor 3 for artificially generating the load of running time is connected, and the driving motor 1 rotates according to the control data from a control means 10, and the absorption motor 3 is provided with a resistor for performing the characteristic test of the transmission 2. The transmission means 10 forms an engine model varying a plurality of parameters regarding the rotational torque output from the driving motor 1 by inputting the prescribed conditions.
