PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide paper used for newspaper for offset printing, having a good water-absorbing/attaching amount and a high opacity after the printing, also hardly causing troubles such as a blanket piling, etc., and equipped with a good printing quality and print-working property jointly. SOLUTION: This paper for the newspaper for offset printing obtained by coating a surface-treating agent containing a pigment, an adhesive and a surface-sizing agent on at least one side surface of stock paper is characterized in that≥50 mass% of the pigment is a light calcium carbonate, the main component of the adhesive is starch and the dried coated amount of the light calcium carbonate is 0.3-3.0 g/m<SP>2</SP>.
