PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dust container of a vacuum cleaner and a vacuum cleaner which can easily dispose of dust collected and prevent dust from soiling an operator in disposing of the dust. SOLUTION: The dust container 2, a nearly cylindrical dust case 7 having an opening on the upper end, a lid 8, and a hinge portion 9 to swingably link the lid 8 to the dust case 7. In the hinge portion 9, the shaft of the lid 8 is inserted into a bearing portion having a near C cross section of the dust case 7. When the operator releases the engagement of the operating lid 8 with the dust case 7 by operating a lid operating mechanism 43 provided on the side of the dust case 7, the lid 8 is automatically opened by an automatic opening mechanism 24 provided in the vicinity of the hinge portion 9. By vertically inclining the opening of the dust case 7 downward, the operator can easily dispose of dust in the dust case 7 without soiling his hands. When an excessive force is applied to the lid 8, the shaft of the lid 8 easily comes off the bering portion and prevents the hinge portion 9 from getting damaged. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
