PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydraulic shock absorber having optimum damping force while effectively controlling the flow of oil liquid during both strokes of elongation and shrinkage of a piston ranging from a low speed region to a high speed region. SOLUTION: A piston 2 has piston low speed region oil liquid passages 4a, 6a, disc valves 3a, 5a, medium and high speed region oil liquid passages 4b, 6b and a disc valves 3b, 5b.
