PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for generating a deformation map maintaining sufficiently high visibility even when the map is displayed on an extremely small display mounted on a small-sized information processing apparatus with a relatively small amount of computations. SOLUTION: A main path data store (31) fetches a main path from a given electronic map. A peripheral path data store (32) sets the paths on the peripheries of a main path as peripheral paths. A peripheral path data correction section (33) connects the arcs on the peripheral paths to the deformed main path. A template memory (34) stores the template representing a simple figure. A similarity evaluation section (35A) numerizes the similarity between the path segment and the simple figure. A conforming figure determination section (35B) determines the simple figure indicating the maximum similarity as the conforming figure relating to each path segment. A path dividing section (35C) bisects the path segment having no conforming figure.
