PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an interactive information system capable of carrying on and developing interaction with a user in more natural manner. SOLUTION: The interactive information system includes a speech recognition device, a speech synthesizer, a human type robot, a microphone, and a speaker outputting a synthesized voice. This system includes a news-gathering means which is connected to the Internet to gather news, a news database where the gathered news are stored, and a conversation database including at least a general conversation database, stored with a set of questions and answers used in a general conversation. A conversation engine of this system extracts a keyword from a user's conversation recognized by the speech recognition device, performs retrieval from at least one of the news database and conversation database using the keyword, and outputs hit contents as an answer.
