PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display which shifts to the power saving mode by itself even if the computer connected as the signal source is not turned off or does not shift to its power saving mode. SOLUTION: The illumination sensor 4 detects the brightness of the environment where the display 1 is installed and inputs it to the controller 7. The controller 7 decides whether to shift the display 1 to the power saving mode or not according to the inputted information. When shifting to the power save mode, it stops the operation of the back light drive signal generator 6, and at the same time stops the supply of the power and the display signals to the liquid crystal display panel 2.
