PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an auto tensioner for turnably energizing a turning member 30 in a belt thrusting direction with the torsional torque of a torsional coil spring 50 while using the reaction of the torsional torque for generating damping force on the turn of the turning member 30, thus sufficiently suppressing the resonance of the torsional coil spring 50 due to the rotational fluctuation and vibration of an engine without omitting an outer periphery side damping member 17 which holds a boss portion 31 of the turning member 30 between an inside damping member 14 externally fitted onto a shaft portion 11 of a fixing member 10 and itself. SOLUTION: To a coil portion 51 of the torsional coil spring 50, an elastically deformable vibration absorbing member 70 in an approximately circular cross section is elastically fitted into the state of embracing the coil portion 51 at its outer periphery side.
