The invention relates to an assembly and a method for locating objects that can be magnetised or magnetic objects, which are situated in non-magnetic media. To increase the detection depth for objects of this type and to permit an unequivocal recording of their form, position and structure on individual detection planes, the assembly is equipped with at least one sensor in a primary magnetic field of a magnetic field generator, the distribution of the magnetisation of the magnetic field in the vicinity of the respective sensor being uniform or known in terms of its local profile.
