<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus, an image processing method and a camera unit in which a more appropriate still picture can be easily obtained as a picture indicating entire features of a moving image. <P>SOLUTION: Motion picture information such as a time length of a moving image selected by a user or the number of variations in cutting in the moving image is acquired from the moving image and based on the acquired motion picture information, layout data indicating a design of a still picture to be generated (such as the number of multiple frame images (frames) constituting the moving image, their sizes or layout thereof) are selectively read from a memory (SA2-SA6). The still picture is generated out by disposing the predetermined frame images constituting the selected moving image based on the layout data (SA14, SA15). The predetermined frame images are automatically set according to setting rules that become different in accordance with whether data regarding a highlight frame of which a size is greater than that of the other frame images are included in the layout data.
