PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electromagnetic relay improved in both mechanical function and electrical function, with increased long-term stability. SOLUTION: An electromagnetic relay (1) has a switching contact (6) and an operation contact (5). The switching contact (6) makes a contact with a contact element (7) at an open position. The switching contact (6) mutually operates with an armature plate (3) disposed on the other side of a coil (2) on a side opposite to the switching contact (6) through a slide element (10). A contact element (7) is disposed under the contact point (13) of the switching contact (6) and has a contact face (24) contacting the switching contact (6) under the contact points (13) at an open position. Positioning the contacting face (24) at this position achieves an improvement of the start-up of the relay (1).
