<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video display apparatus and method capable of easily suppressing the sticking of a video signal on a boundary of high luminance parts. <P>SOLUTION: In the video display apparatus 20 comprising a video signal processing part 23 for generating a video signal to be displayed on a plasma display panel 29 by converting an input video signal into a digital signal and applying prescribed video signal processing to the digital signal, a frame memory 26 for storing the video signal and a module 29c for displaying an image on a plasma display panel 29 through a driver 27 for driving respective pixels, the video signal processing part 23 reduces a luminance difference by reducing the levels of overshoot 30a, 30b and undershoot 30c, 30d in a video signal located on a boundary between blank areas E1, E3 when displaying an image without trimming the image if the aspect ratio of the video signal stored in the frame memory 26 is different from the aspect ratio of a screen to suppress printing on the boundary between the blank areas E1, E3. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
