A sealed magnetic contact device with remanent reeds 2, 3 has a contact closing winding 7 wound on to the glass envelope 1 and extending over reed 2 and part of reed'3 and an opening winding 71 extending over all or part of the remainder reed 3. A current pulse in the winding 7 magnetizes both reeds magnetically in series to close the contacts and a suitable pulse in the winding 71 will reverse the magnetization of reed 3 to open the contacts. Contact ends 5 are plated with gold, rhodium or silver, diffused after plating.
