Ternary and higher silver alloys comprise at least 80 % by weight silver, sufficient germanium to impart good tarnish resistance and one precious metal selected from gallium, gold, indium, iridium, osmium, palladium, platinum, rhenium, rhodium or ruthenium. Quaternary alloys either contain two precious metals or further contain copper. Quintary alloys contain two precious metal and copper. Also an alloy comprising (by weight): 65.0-70.0 % silver, 29.9-34.9 % cadmium, 0.1-3.0 % germanium, with the balance being incidental alloying elements and/or grain refiner and an alloy comprising 65.0-85.0 % silver, 2.0-20.0 % indium, 0-10 % cadmium, 0.1-3.0 % germanium, with the balance being incidental alloying elements and/or grain refiner. Also eutectic, hypereutectic and hypocutectic master alloys containing silver, two precious metal(s) and germanium.
|
