A method of balancing a rotor 30, where the rotor comprises a plurality of bolt holes 32 and stress defender holes 34, the method comprising: first measuring an imbalance of the rotor 30; secondly identifying at least one characteristic dimension associated with at least one of the holes 32, 34; thirdly identifying a change to the or each characteristic dimension to reduce the imbalance; and finally changing the or each characteristic dimension accordingly.
