988,029. Co-axial cables. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. March 15, 1963, No. 10367/63. Addition to 921,232. Heading H1A. The central conductor 5 (Fig. 2) of a coaxial cable is supported by a polythene strip 1 (Fig. 1) which has projections on it and which is folded around the central conductor so that the projections fit together to form the supporting ribs 7. The strip may be longitudinally corrugated (Fig. 4, not shown) so as to fit more readily around the central conductor. Alternate sets of projections may be staggered on the strip so that the gaps in the supporting ribs are angularly staggered (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown). The projections may be arranged sloping across the supporting strip so that, when the strip is folded, they form a continuous helical spacer (Figs. 7 and 8, not shown). Alternatively a longitudinal line of projections may be provided and the strip wound helically. An outer conductor 6 may be folded around the tape and the whole may be screened with a helical or longitudinal steel tape. The projections on the polythene strip may be formed on a heated metal strip so that the two members are bonded together and applied to the central conductor in one operation. |
