PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a hydrocarbon-free synthesis gas with a reduced carbon dioxide concentration.

SOLUTION: In the method for producing a synthesis gas essentially comprising hydrogen and carbon monoxide, a gas generated through partial combustion of a hydrocarbon is reformed by a catalyst using a synthesis gas-generating furnace wherein a catalytic layer is installed. The outlet temperature of the catalyst layer is kept at 1,100-1,300°C, and the carbon dioxide concentration in the produced synthesis gas is set at ≤10%.
