A transducer 3 produces a signal in response to a moving wagon 1, the signal comprising a constant part corresponding to the staticweight of the wagon and a time-varying part caused by mechanical vibrations of the moving wagon. The specification shows that by multiplying the transducer output by a function f(t), integrating the product with respect to time over a period T and dividing the result by the integral of f(t) over the same period T, a quantity is obtained which more accurately represents the static-weight than if the mean value of the transducer output is taken over the period T. The function f(t) is single-valued, positive throughout T and is symmetrical about a maximum at T/2. The output from 3 is digitized at S, sampled by gates 13 and stored at 14. Clock generator 15 is started at the beginning of the weighing period T and supplies divider 19 which in turn feeds counter 16. Each time counter 16 overflows, a fresh sample is introduced by gates 13 and counter 18 is advanced to vary the division ratio of the divider 19 in accordance with f(t). Serializer 7 produces a number of pulses corresponding to the product referred to above. Divider 8 divides by the integral of f(t).
