A ceramic cement comprises, in weight per cent, lead oxide 1-16, flux 1-15, at least one of silicon carbide 1-6 and sulphur trioxide 1-6, and the remainder substantially all lithium alumina silicate ceramic material. Specified ingredients are petalite as the lithium compound; metallic oxides and fluorides as the fluxes and sulphates for the sulphur trioxide, the sulphates also contributing an oxide factor to the flux lead oxide itself. Numerous examples of sulphates and fluxes are given and include magnesia and baria. A foamed cement results when both silicon carbide and sulphur trioxide are present. The ingredients can be mixed dry or wet, e.g. with butyl alcohol. The cements are used for joining ceramic parts. Specifications 442,526, 829,447 and 882,484 are referred to.
|
