FIELD: polymer materials. ^ SUBSTANCE: invention provides a method for manufacturing polyvinyl alcohol-based modified films with elevated fire resistance by means treatment with phosphorus-containing compounds. In particular, 5-15% aqueous solution of methyl phosphite borate is used and films are treated during 1-2 min and then dried at ambient temperature. Thus obtained polymers are characterized by good film-forming properties, exhibit self-extinction capability, and show water absorption at a level of 1.14%.
