PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a terahertz wave generating device for securing long term reliability by possessing a simple structure easy to manufacture. SOLUTION: The terahertz wave generating device comprises a semiconductor laser element 10 having two resonators of different resonance directions of an A direction and a B direction having a semiconductor hetero structure, and a non-linear optical element 11 generating a terahertz wave by receiving two beams of light from the resonator of the A direction and the resonator of the B direction. The terahertz wave generating device includes the structure for taking out light of the two resonators in an intersecting part to the outside of the resonator, i.e. a light emitting part 10a forming the other part of the resonator and the structure in which an effective refractive index is different.
