PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable alarm device that can be made to surely operate, in case of emergency. SOLUTION: The portable alarm device is provided with a body 2, incorporating an alarm sound generation device and a switch for operating the alarm sound generating device and a pin 3, which dangles from a neck or the like with a code 8 and is detachable from the body 2. In an emergency where a suspicious individual is approaching, the pin 3 is unlocked, by merely strongly grasping a second part 2b as the elastic deformation part of the body 2. By pulling the body 2 to detach the pin 3, as it is, the body 2 issues an alarm at a high volume level. The victim throws away the body 2, issuing the alarm at high volume level, to a location away from the suspicious individual who is coming toward him. The suspicious individual will be confused as to which of either the victim or the body 2 to go and will momentarily hesitate, so that the victim can have the opportunity to escape from the suspicious individual.
