PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shock absorber capable of controlling damping force in response to a vertical force with a simple structure. SOLUTION: The shock absorber 1 comprises: a mass member 53 moved by the vertical force generated in a vehicle; bypass passages 34, 35 and 36 allowing a first liquid chamber and a second liquid chamber defined by a piston valve, and a reservoir chamber to communicate with each other; a spool 42 for opening/closing the bypass passages 34, 35 and 36; and a spool operation part 50 acting as a connection mechanism which connects the spool 42 and the mass member 53 and brings the spool 42 from a valve-opened state to a valve-closed state in association with the movement of the mass member 53 caused by the vertical force generated in the vehicle.
