PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a generating set efficiently generating electric power in a wide operating range. SOLUTION: A generating system comprises: a variable displacement expander 5 disposed in an intake passage 4 of an engine 1; a generator 7 driven by the expander 5 to generate the electric power; an intake air volume detection means 11 detecting or estimating an intake air volume of the engine 1; and a control means controlling a capacity of the expander 5 so that a revolution speed of the generator 7 is within a predetermined range depending on the detected intake air volume.
