PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tread rubber composition which reduces rolling resistance of a tire without lowering driving stability and braking performance on wet roads. SOLUTION: The tread rubber composition is obtained by blending 10-200 mass pts. of silica, 1-30 mass pts. of a sulfur-containing silane compound expressed by average compositional formula (I): (R<SP>1</SP>O)<SB>3-p-q</SB>R<SP>2</SP><SB>p</SB>R<SP>3</SP><SB>q</SB>Si-R<SP>4</SP>-S<SB>x</SB>-R<SP>4</SP>-SiR<SP>3</SP><SB>q</SB>R<SP>2</SP><SB>p</SB>(OR<SP>1</SP>)<SB>3-p-q</SB>to 100 mass pts. of a rubber composition. At least part of the rubber composition is a modified conjugated diene polymer having two or more functional groups containing nitrogen in the molecule. In the formula, R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each a 1-4C alkyl group; R<SP>3</SP>is a 2-4C alkenyl group; R<SP>4</SP>is a 1-15C divalent hydrocarbon group; p is an integer of 0-2; q is an integer of 1-3; p+q≤3; x is not less than 1 and less than 4 on average.
