PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a continuous carbonization apparatus capable of preventing excessive air from flowing into a rotary hearth furnace. SOLUTION: The continuous carbonization apparatus is provided with a horizontally supported rotary hearth furnace 1, a fixed outer cylinder 8 surrounding the outer circumference, a burner 10 that heats a heating chamber 9 formed between the fixed outer cylinder and the rotary hearth furnace, a cylinder 12 that is inserted into one end opening 1A of the rotary hearth furnace, a conveyor 13 that conveys an organic matter to be treated into the rotary hearth furnace through the cylinder, and an exit hood 29 that covers the other end opening 1B of the rotary hearth furnace. The conveyor 13 is provided with a cylindrical trough 14 to be inserted into the cylinder 12 and a screw shaft 15 having helical blade at the external periphery and formed in the trough 14 in a freely rotatable manner. The front end of the trough 14 is provided with an inner cover 23 which is opened by the pushing pressure of the organic matter to be treated, and a pressure application lever 24 that intermittently pushes the inner cover 23 toward the direction of closing is attached on the screw shaft 15.
