<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radar system of scanning type capable of precisely widening the scanning range without necessitation of enhancement of signal process capacity in the radar controller. <P>SOLUTION: When the control object recognition part provided in the radar controller is performing a target detection process, when a scanning mechanism is indicated with an angle of scan beam, and when the target in a range of three lanes including adjacent lanes is needed to detect, the effective distance Le regarding each lane is operated from the angle of scanning of each beam and the width of running lane of three lane width. Each effective distance Le is compared with the magnitude of control distance Lc. If Le is larger than the Lc, the number of detection data for the beam is set as default value. If the Le is shorter than the Lc, the number of detection beams for the beam is obtained and set by multiplying the default value of the number of detection data with the ratio Le/Lc.
