PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mail server and a program thereof, wherein efficient use of the capacity of a mail box prevents the occurrence of "insufficient memory", without increasing the capacity of a memory, even when the number of clients is large. SOLUTION: The mail server for downloading electronic mail from an external mail server downloads, in advance, the electronic mail to a local mail box, when there is a room in the capacity of the local mail box, checks newly arrived mail, when receiving a request from a client, and downloads the newly arrived mail.
