PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the use of pictorial symbols of a user's own making by means of an electronic mail function and surely display (use) the pictorial symbols of a user's own making on a mobile terminal, without a common database for pictorial characters of users' own making. SOLUTION: When a mobile terminal 1B, which is a receiving terminal, detects that a main text of a received electronic mail includes special character codes, which are not preliminarily registered in its own terminal 1B, (YES route in S5), the mobile terminal requests special character information corresponding to the special character codes to another mobile terminal 1A which is a transmitting terminal which transmits the electronic mail (S6). The transmitting terminal 1A transmits the special character information to the receiving terminal 1B in response to the request (S9). Then, the receiving terminal 1B displays the special characters corresponding to the special character codes in the main text of the received electronic mail based on the special character information received from the transmitting terminal 1A (S13).
