PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of automatically measuring the endogenous thrombin potential in blood or plasma specimen. SOLUTION: In this method of measuring the endogenous thrombin potential in coagulating blood or plasma specimen, (a) a linear region of the saturating phase of the total reaction speed is measured within a range of a time frame which is specific to a predetermined test, and then (b) coupling constant C toα<SB>2</SB>-macroglobulin of thrombin is repetitively measured by using slope A of the total reaction speed in the linear region of the saturating phase. The slope corresponds to the slope of the reaction speed ofα<SB>2</SB>MT. Then, (c) the value of the reaction rate ofα<SB>2</SB>MT is measured and is subtracted from the corresponding value of the total reaction rate, and then (d) the raw ETP value is measured by averaging the values of the reaction rates of free thrombin measured in the linear region of the total reaction rate of the saturated phase. As the function of time, turnover rate of thrombin substrate to be measured is used. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
