PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preparing an optically active compound from a racemic epoxide by using an epoxide hydrolase (EH) as an organic synthesis reagent. SOLUTION: This method for preparing an optically active compound comprises a step of allowing a microorganism having an epoxide hydrolyzing activity or an enzyme derived from the microorganism to act on a racemate of an epoxide to hydrolyze one enantiomer of the racemate; and a step of recovering the target optically active compound from the reaction fluid, and the epoxide is a compound represented by formula (I), and the microorganism belongs to Bacillus genus, Chromobacterium genus, Nocardia genus, Stenotrophomonas genus, Microbacterium genus, Pseudomonas genus, Gordona genus, Klebsiella genus, Candida genus, Galactomyces genus, Saccharomyces genus, Sporidiobolus genus, Rhodospoidium genus, Pichia genus or Rhodotorula genus.
