PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting and removing apparatus for an existing expansion joint, which can positively cut and remove the existing expansion joint arranged at a joint portion of a viaduct up to its end portions without a concern of leaving residual portions. SOLUTION: In implementation of cutting and removing, a stand (M) of the cutting and removing apparatus is firmly fitted into a pair of right and left pulley releasing grooves (G) which are longitudinally cut away in the existing expansion joint (J), in a straddling manner, and wire saws (11) are drawn and extended from guide pulleys (10) facing to the interior of the grooves (G), respectively, followed by engaging the tips of the wire saws (11) into wire saw receiving slits (S) laterally cut away in the expansion joint (J), with the expansion joint (J) in a manner crossing the same. Then, while being rotated at a high speed, a rotary driving pulley (2) of the wire saws (11) to which predetermined strain is applied, is moved upward along an elevation guide support (1), and therefore the expansion joint (J) is cut away by a predetermined depth (T) and then removed.
