PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-insoluble polyuronic acid excellent in safety such as biocompatibility, biodegradability, etc., having uniform structure and excellent in physical properties as a functional material, remarkably effective as various additives imparting hyrophilicity, moisture absorbing and releasing property, moisture controlling property to various functional materials such as food, medical treatment/medicine, a cosmetic, or the like, or an extender, a bulking agent, a filler, etc., and to provide a method for producing a polyglucuronic acid in an easy and safety process. SOLUTION: The invention relates to the water-insoluble polyuronic acid molded article having a polyvalent metal salt of carboxy group. The invention relates to the method for producing the water-insoluble polyuronic acid molded article comprising a process at least selectively oxidizing polysaccharides, and a process insolubilizing the oxidized polysaccharides by adding the polyvalent metal salt to the oxidized polysaccharide.
