PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an image forming apparatus from being made large-sized, the image forming apparatus being an image forming apparatus which cleans an image carrier surface after toner image transfer with a cleaning blade held by a blade holder and coats the image carrier surface with a lubricant by a lubricant coating device and being characterized in that the lubricant coating device has a brush roller abutting against the image carrier surface, a solid lubricant abutting against the brush roller, and a compression spring pressing the solid lubricant against the brush roller. SOLUTION: A direction C in which the compression spring 37 presses the solid lubricant 34 and a direction in which the cleaning blade 28 projects are parallel to each other, and the blade holder is fixed to a guide 36 which guides the solid lubricant 34.
