In sensor element for determining concentration of components in gas mixtures, especially oxygen concentration in internal combustion engine exhaust gas, which has electrochemical measuring cell(s) with electrodes (22. 23) in contact with solid electrolyte, heating element (40) for heating sensor element to operating temperature and integrated cavity (25, 27), this cavity (25, 27) has positive but less than average diameter in region (25a, 25b) near its side wall(s). An independent claim is also included for production of a sensor element, especially the cited sensor.
