PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle speed detecting device capable of making speeds to be reference between respective vehicles coincide with each other at the time of traveling in line. SOLUTION: A radar device, a front camera 2 and an image processor 21 calculate a distance to the preceding vehicle and relative speed information, and a control ECU 5 calculates or corrects the current speed of a self-vehicle on the basis of the distance, the relative speed information and speed information of the preceding vehicle received by communication equipment 40. By using the speed information calculated in this way to travel in line, reference speeds in a traveling group in line coincide with each other so that the vehicle can travel in an orderly manner.
