<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small, lightweight and inexpensive inverter controller for motor drive. <P>SOLUTION: An inverter for motor drive comprising a small capacity reactor 11 and a small capacity capacitor 12 provided between DC buses of the inverter 3 is further provided with an input current estimation means 20 for deriving an input current based on the duty of a PWM signal and the motor phase current, and a speed suppression means 21 delivering a command for lowering the speed command value of a motor temporarily to a speed determination means 13 when an input current value obtained from the input current estimation means 20 exceeds a preset level thus realizing a small, lightweight and inexpensive inverter controller for motor drive.
